Your Rights and Coverage Under Travel Insurance
Questions and Answers on Travel Insurance – "Rising Lion" Campaign
Due to the current security situation and its impact on international flights, we have compiled important, up-to-date information on your rights and coverage under travel insurance.
My return flight to Israel was canceled, and my policy is about to expire. What should I do?
Answer:
Insured travelers whose return flight to Israel was scheduled between June 13 and June 21 are entitled to an automatic extension of their travel insurance coverage, at no additional cost, until June 23.
With some insurance companies, the coverage extension is provided until June 26. It is recommended to check directly with the insurance company that issued your policy.
My regular medications are about to run out due to the flight delay. What can be done?
Answer:
If you declared the use of regular medications when purchasing your policy, insurance companies will assist you in issuing an international prescription so that you can purchase the medication in the country where you are currently staying. Furthermore, you may be eligible for reimbursement for the cost of purchasing the medication, typically USD 100–500, depending on the terms of your policy.
Does my travel insurance cover expenses incurred due to flight cancellations – such as accommodation, a rental car, meals, or an alternative flight?
Answer:
A travel insurance policy provides medical coverage only and does not include reimbursement for expenses resulting from security-related situations (such as flight cancellations, additional accommodation, rental cars, etc.).
For reimbursement of these types of expenses, you should contact the airline or the relevant service provider directly.
The airline canceled my flight from Israel abroad. Does my insurance cover the cancellation?
Answer:
Travel Insurance covers flight cancellation only for medical reasons. Cancellations resulting from the security situation or the airline's decision are not covered. You should contact the airline to check the possibility of a refund or rebooking on an alternative flight.
When and how can I return to Israel?
Answer:
At this time, Israeli airlines are operating evacuation flights from selected destinations in Europe, including Larnaca, Athens, Paris, Rome, and Milan.
The evacuation process may take several days, and the estimated cost of a flight ticket ranges from USD 99 to USD 500, depending on the destination and the airline.
How is the boarding priority for the evacuation flights determined?
Answer:
There is a clear priority order for rescue flights. Priority shall be given to:
• Patients who require ongoing medical treatment in Israel
• Reservists called up for emergency reserve duty (Order 8)
• Physicians and essential medical personnel
• Children traveling without a parent or guardian
